I own both models and they are both fantastic guitars.The 59s I own have a bit more of a 'brown' soundthe pickups are voiced to be a bit smoother and velvety in my observation.The 65 pickups sound amazing toojust a tad less 'brown' if you understand that term. IMHO, the top 2 best finishes Fender has are Surf Green and Daphne Blue. I love my '65, but if I am only allowed one strat in Hell, it would have to be a '59 (or CS '60 NOS) slab board in sunburst or Olympic White or Surf Green.
