Slept like a log. Previous to the Barcelo I have stayed 13 times at the Iberostar Paraiso property in various sections (Del Mar, Beach, Lindo, Maya, Grand). The second room is what most would refer to as the Master Bedroom and it connects to the first room via a door off of the living room. so by all means make sure you get some walks in around the whole complex. The grounds at the Barcelo are kept very beautiful, but it's not as lush as the Iberostar. In fact, you get two rooms. Beyond the twin beds is a living room area with television and another couch that can convert to a twin bed. Tiles were fixed if chipped, drain spouts were cleaned to prevent insects from brewing, the hallways were swept and mopped daily, lights fixed, grass trimmed, floors waxed and sealed, paint freshened, every detail was attended to. This was handy to grab an herbal tea en route back to my room at night.okay and maybe a few cookies as wellhee..hee.If you like snorkeling definitely bring your own equipment as lots of on site snorkeling opportunities here. I would not recommend either of these resorts for their beaches (rocky) and the snorkeling was not good. Awesome snorkeling. Continue walking into the room and you will find two twin beds set up next to a snack bar with a coffee maker, microwave, mini-fridge and an assortment of glassware, silverware, and plates (in case you want to dine in your room - we never did, but it is nice to have). The ocean is clear blue and warm. Consider speaking to the resort about having a romantic dinner beside the cenote one evening to surprise your honey.Enjoy the many weddings that take place on property. After the housekeeping staff had cleaned the room I always loved sliding the bathroom doors open to behold my double raised marble sinks and all the little extra amenities they would leave, emery board, q-tips, razor & shave cream, toothbrush and toothpaste, bath salts, which were beyond the standard things like the sewing kit and the plastic shower cap. I have never bitten into a more vial tasting thing in my life. We spent most of our time on the Palace side of the resort since this was closest to our rooms and offered the most recent and upgraded amenities of all of the resorts on property. If you can, bring your own snorkel gear and flippers. Make up mirror in the bathroom was actually high enough for me to use.The potato chips and peanuts in the mini-bar came in handy one night when I hadnt had too much for dinner and returned to the room late at night a little hungry.I am a resort bedroom/bathroom snob so I waited until the Palace was built with the bigger bedrooms before trying the Barcelo property. The sheets and comforter were also very comfortable. We enjoyed the Michael Jackson show as well as the shows where guests participated. I know it was to keep the birds away from the outdoor seating areas of the buffet but I found that the netting over the windows kind of took away from the view of the beacha necessary evil I guess? On-site at the Barcelo Maya Palace guests can discover a large variety of amenities, including 7 different restaurants, a full-service spa and a nightclub. I liked that the resort provided slippers and bathrobes. Each day we noted that they were fixing even small items that if left to erode would have quickly lead to a bigger problem down the road. It will save you the trip of walking down to the dive shop to rent gear. Keep in mind that all phone calls still cost extra money, so consider upgrading your phone service to a Mexican roaming plan when you will be out of your home country.Bring Stroller if traveling with small children - a lot of walking.The resort has a cenote (a place where the ocean water rises up out of the ground). I was impressed that the oldest sectionthe Caribe looked very well maintained. I felt like a complete nobody when I checked in. The kids loved it. It was so melted that I didnt bother with it as it looked more like soup and did not look very appetizing. Kids area was great. We stayed at the Tropical/Colonial last year and at the Maya Beach/Caribe this year. When i called them to tell them they hung up on me until i talked with the manager. I couldnt help thinkingId love to get the Iberostar designers in to do a complete makeover of the Palace lobby and main building. This really isnt necessary to charge SO much especially with digital photography. Only saw 2 iguanas and a few birds. The walking was fine for us (it helped to burn off some of that good buffet food), but if you are willing to wait for the Barcelo bus, it is a short walk to the bus waiting area, and this can quickly get you wherever you wish to visit on the property.We later discovered that there are not very many of these family suites available on the property, so if you are interested in having some privacy from your kids, you will definitely want to book before they are snatched up by someone else.A review of Barcelo - the resort complex:Check-in:Super smooth. At first we thought that this room was the hotel's excursion office, but it is just a place for other travel agencies like Delta Vacations and Lomas Travel or Apple Vacations, etc to sell excursions and arrange for airport transfers for their guests. The Oaxaca building is more central as well to other parts of the resort so it was great. The beach however is much nicer at the Beach/Caribe portion of the resort. The trip costs are the same regardless of which agency you book with.Beach and Dive Shop:The beach is a great combination of soft sand and an awesome coral reef for snorkel lovers. It has a large building and waiting area. If you are lucky you might just hit the right day when they are hatching. But, this time we will be back at the Tropical/Colonial. The syrup you put on top takes care of that part. There were some cosy looking little outdoors bars in the lobby of the Caribenever did get a chance to have a drink there thoughnext time.Liked the screen doors on room balconies.no other resort I have stayed at in Mexico had screen doors. It was like sleeping in a good American hotel.A hurricane passed by during one night while we were there. The Maya Palace also features several on-site tennis courts along with free snorkelling equipment hire, kayaks, and water aerobics classes. the resort is 20 minutes from playa and costs you about $20 each way. Family Suite Layout: You enter the first room, and just to your right is a half bath (no shower or tub). Cold things stayed cold. It was great for accommodating people that missed breakfast, missed lunch etc. We also tipped our masseuse, which was appreciated.Maintenance and Housekeeping:We needed maintenance to help us with our television when we first checked in. Service was prompt and efficient, and they fixed the problem with the television no problems. It has a main living room and separate bedroom with 2 single beds, a sofa bed and bathroom. !Coffee was great.Things I didnt like at the Barcelo /Needs ImprovementThe place was strangely void of animals. Warm items stayed warm. Must be a much better manager at the Coral Grill as the service there was so much better. Great talent!The beach is great! The evening gets very boring unless you have a lot of people like we did which made it fun. the restaurants in the connecting resorts were excellent like the spanish, japanese, steak house..the service was wonderful..oh, and there always seemed to be bumpin music in the other resorts than ours.
